Hello Neighborhood Associations,
We are pleased to share with you that the Draft Amended Diridon Station Area Plan (DSAP) is now online.
The draft Plan, feedback form, and technical memorandum explaining the environmental review approach can be found here: https://www.diridonsj.org/fall2020-dsap.
Visit https://www.diridonsj.org/fall2020 for Diridon Station Area-related events, including a December 3, 2020 community meeting (6:30-8:30 PM) on the Draft Amended DSAP and Draft Diridon Station Area Affordable Housing Implementation Plan.
The City now welcomes public comments on the Draft Amended DSAP through January 8, 2021.
Background:
The Diridon Station Area Plan (DSAP) provides a blueprint for development in the 250-acre Diridon Station Area, surrounding San José Diridon Station on the western edge of downtown. Following community engagement, the City Council adopted this plan in 2014. Since then, many conditions have changed, including:
- The City is no longer planning for a major league ballpark south of the station.
- Google proposed its Downtown West Mixed-Use project.
- City Council approved a policy to allow for greater building height limits in Downtown, including the Diridon area, and in 2019 also adopted comprehensive Downtown Design Guidelines and Standards.
- Other major studies and planning efforts are underway, such as an Affordable Housing Implementation Study; the Diridon Integrated Station Concept Plan; the Downtown Transportation Plan process; and a focus on sustainability through Climate Smart San José.
In 2018, the City formed the Station Area Advisory Group (SAAG) and began significant community engagement on how to best align the DSAP with the above conditions and establish a refined vision for the Diridon Station Area. Public and SAAG input have shaped the Draft Amended DSAP. It integrates equity considerations and provides a guide for future private development and public investments. The target for City Council consideration of the Draft Amended DSAP is Spring 2021.
The next SAAG meeting is scheduled for November 9, 2020 (6:00-8:00 pm – Zoom Webinar). More information on SAAG can be found at: https://www.diridonsj.org/saag.
Thank you, Jose
